well your questions contradicts itself, you first aak for the first verison and then say any old verison wil do.
how ever saying this, its a bit hard to gather the details since the very first "after effects" wasnt owned by adobe and in fact wasnt even named after effects . it was codenamed EGG
Sorry about that. I've been looking into this for a long time and i'm tired since i tought it would take less than a day to find out.
Yeah, and CS5's codename is Esgocart, but i dont know what to make of these codenames. Google and wikipedia only give out so much information. I was hoping there would be a few older gentlemen (or gentlewomen) who had the original package with the pricetag intact or something.

Look up "company of science and art" in Wikipedia. Or just do a google search for "company of science and art".
I saw this page before, but didnt see the email address in the frontpage picture.
Let's hope its not a dead end. I'll post here if i happen to find the answer!
After Effects 2.0 retailed for $1,995 in 1993 dollars.
I'm seeing if I can find the 1.0 price information.
Here's some history information, including an explanation for our first few codenames:
Wow, thats around 3000$ todays money. + the costs for hardware those days.
Once again thanks!
The nominal retail price of After Effects 1.0 was $1,295.
Few people paid that, though, because the main way that people got the first version was as part of a bundle with some video hardware. That whole package was ~$5,000.
