1. Re: Debayer resolution for R3D files?
Tim Kurkoski Aug 5, 2011 12:02 PM (in response to trancepriest)There's no direct equivalent of those settings in AME; debayer detail is handled on a clip-by-clip basis. The default setting is High. You can control the Debayer Detail value in the R3D Settings dialog (right click on an R3D file > Source Settings).
If you have a RED Rocket card installed, debayer processing via the card may differ from software.
This is assuming you are using AME CS5.5. AME CS5 does not have access to the R3D Settings dialogn, nor to RED Rocket cards. Please make sure you have the latest RED importer update installed.
If you have more specific questions about details of RED workflow, you may want to post your question on the REDUser.net forums. Lots of good brains over there, and a couple of Adobe engineers frequent that board.

2. Re: Debayer resolution for R3D files?
trancepriest Aug 5, 2011 6:04 PM (in response to Tim Kurkoski)So debayer detail and debayer resolution are two different things? In AME when Debayer Detail is set to high.. exactly what is AME doing to the clip? I've noticed that when switched from High to Medium the transcode times are not significantly different. Which leads me to think that debayer detail and debayer resolution is two different things. I've posted my questions over on reduser but no one is knowledgeable enough to answer. Here are the threads:
AME for transcodes:

Debayer quality in Adobe Media Encoder:

I would like to confirm if AME uses debayer FULL by default as I suspect.

3. Re: Debayer resolution for R3D files?
SteveHoeg Aug 6, 2011 7:04 AM (in response to trancepriest)Debayer and decode resolution are not directly exposed but chosen in one of two ways as of CS5.5. If you set the max quality setting then the decode and debayer will be done at full resolution. If you do not set max quality then ten resolution will be chosen automatically based on your output size. For example if you are exporting a 4k RED clip to 4k DPX then full resolution will be used. If you are exporting 4k to 1080p then 1/2 resolution will be used.

5. Re: Debayer resolution for R3D files?
SteveHoeg Aug 6, 2011 7:52 AM (in response to trancepriest)Yes, it is the "Use Maximum Render Quality" checkbox at the bottom that will always use full resolution.

8. Re: Debayer resolution for R3D files?
Elliott B. Sep 4, 2013 9:02 AM (in response to SteveHoeg)What if I want to use 1/4 debayer all the time, how can I put that into a preset for batches so I don't have to click source settings on every single clip?

That's indeed the current status.
With the October 2013 release of AME we're introducing effects such as Lumetri LUT / Looks, Image Overlay, TimeCode and text burn-in. This is procedural and can be stored as part of an export preset.
If you have suggestions for the RED workflow we're all ears.
Cheers,
Patrick

11. Re: Debayer resolution for R3D files?
Elliott B. Sep 18, 2013 9:35 AM (in response to Patrick J. Palmer)Burn-in is a good feature, I look forward to that. But I still will continue using DaVinci Resolve for my R3D transcodes because it's simply faster. I think that's due in part to its option to choose a lower debayer resolution. I'd like to see all R3D metadata includes in AME transcode presets, but especially debayer res.

Congrats on getting it implemented so fast.
