Printing Adobe pdf with terrible ink color and ink caking from Mac OS X 10.4.11 to Xerox Phaser

When I print from my Macintosh (version Mac OS X 10.4.11) to my Xerox Phaser6280dn using Adobe to print pdfs, the files print out with the ink caking up on the paper and the color relsolution is poor.  When I print files other than Adobe file, everything prints fine.  All the Macs in the office are doing this.  All the PCs in the office do not have a problem printing Adobe pdfs, they are fine.  I've called Xerox and they isolated the problem to be an Adobe problem.  This use to work fine until about a week ago.  What can I do?  Any suggestions?  I have to get this working soon.
