That simply produces same results: "Installation encountered errors. Failed to initialize." Tried to install installer.exe and the rest. Got errors 1722, 1316.

Sorry, I don't understand; what is the file name you downloaded from my link, and what is its size?
Also, can you post the contents of the FlashInstall.log file? (C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash)
I cannot help you if you don't answer my questions.
I'm sorry. I honestly thought I'd answered your question in the forum response I posted. Your exact instructions are as follows (Try downloading the installer from http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html), which is exactly what I did (got same error msg, as I mentioned) I do not know what you mean by "Try downloading the installer from http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html." I'm not that computer savvy. But I totally appreciate your help.
Sorry if my instructions and questions were not clear enough; let's start this again.
I don't know what web browsers you use, so my instructions are for both browser types (Internet Explorer, and other browsers like Firefox).
- go to http://forums.adobe.com/thread/889580
- download the installer for Internet Explorer and save it to disk;
- if you use other browsers, then also download the other installer and save it to disk;
- close all browser windows, then use Windows Explorer to run the installers you downloaded (install_flash_player_10_active_x.exe and possibly install_flash_player_10.exe).
If you still get errors
- please give the exact error message you are getting
- list (copy & paste) the contents of the FlashInstall.log file in C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash
OK, I followed your instructions and it seemed to work, said it was completed. But I can't find it anywhere. Any suggestions? I ran a search for Adobe Flash Player and it's not finding the downloaded file, only old versions from years before.
OK, no error message, but here is the copy/paste of the flash install.log file. Please help. THANKS.

It seems that the install ran, but it has two warnings in the log file, which I do not understand.
Can you now see the Flash animation at http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ ?
If not, can you list what other files are in C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash ?
Do you now use Internet Explorer or Firefox?
Yes. I see it move, then it stops.
I'm using Internet Explorer
That is the correct behavior; it means that Flash Player is now installed and working.
Do you still have any problems with Flash Player?
Can you help me download ShockPlayer?
Error Msg resulted: "Windows has blocked this software because it can't verify the publisher." When I click on the download link you sent, it takes me to the page that says: "Note: If your browser "Security Warning" dialog box appears, you will need to click "Yes" to install the player." But there is NO dialog box.
Fantastic!! Finally!! I was about to give up! Thank you thank you thank you!!!
You're welcome! Good timing also, as I am going out now (to the hot springs on Odaiba island).
Wish I knew how to say "Bon Voyage" in Japanese. Hope you have a great time!
Thank you; it was not such a big trip - 10 minutes by train, then 20 minutes by bus (over the Rainbow Bridge).
It was very enjoyable, although terribly crowded (this is the Japanese "Summer Holiday Week").
Well let's see... I have a WAY easier suggestion!!!
The ONLY reason you're getting those errors are because your computer clock isn't properly synced up with the ITS (Internet Time Servers), hence it's not in sync with Adobe's servers, so it rejects your computer. I bet if you guys/gals try to download any Windows Updates before fixing your time, then it would also give you an ERROR as well.
FIX: Go and adjust your Date/Time settings, click on the tab 'Internet Time' (same for all versions of Windows) and once you have successfully synchronized with any of those ITS (Internet Time Servers) then you should be all set to rock!
i still can't install it

Omg thank you! Who knew something as simple as that would work. I'm so glad I didn't have to go through what that other person was saying it sounded messy lol.
My solution was very unexpected...
I did what you said with time, but this didn't help me, so, i continued my google journey (I had my old flash player uninstalled by that time), and i found youtube link which had solution for my problem, When i entered this link plug in appeared, offering me to instal missing Plug-ins, I clicked it, and it was done. Very unexpected -_-
Riddle me this -- with all the antivirus and firewalls OFF, it still had the identical problem. Failed to initialize at 50% install... and as per the thread you conveniently locked, the exe that launches the installer nicely disappears. On FF and Windows XP. Shockwave is updated. Time is synched up to internet time. It didn't work adding the exe to the AV whitelist either, in case you were wondering.
The only way I can get Adobe Flash to update is to wait another few days for the weekly auto-update. Which is a problem since I need that urgent, urgent security patch to go from 11.6.602.168 to .171.
