So typical, just because I bothered asking the question here it now works. Murphy's law...
It is not Murphys law, because today, with an other file, it is not working again. And I don't know what I did to make it work last time. Anyone who knows what is wrong when ctrl+enter does not work as far as opening the test file. The swf-file is created but not opened in a new window.
Apparently default keyboard shortcuts changed in CS5, which CS5.5 inherited
For example, "Publish SWF" used to be Shift+F12, but now it's defaulted to Shift+Alt+F12.
This one, tho, i believe stayed the same. The menu choice to access it is a little buried now: Control -> Test Movie -> Test.
And then in the preview player, in there, Ctrl-Enter is bound to "Simulate Download", which is what you see in the panel to change keyboard shortcuts as the conflict if you try to change something else to "Ctrl-Enter"
Perhaps you could try going to the Keyboard Shortcuts, and change the shortcut for "Test Movie Menu Commands" -> View -> Simulate Download to something else so that there isn't a conflict?
That being said, Ctrl-Enter works reliably for me in CS5.5... But other things dont! See my post about font symbols being imported from a runtime shared library...

Which platform are you running Flash on? Would you happen to be running Mac 10.7 Lion OS?
Flash Pro, QE
Ctrl+Enter and Ctrl+Alt+Enter works perfectly well on other files so I think my problem lies elsewere.
I'm working on a PC with Windows Vista. My major problem is that the command is working on one file but not on the other... So it is related to the files and not on a deeper level...
I am on Windows7 and had the same problem. I am not sure whether it is only a CS5 iOS fla or all ... but I solved the problem by creating a brand new ios fla in CS5.5 and then copying/pasting all code and library assets from the cs5 version into the newly created cs5.5 fla ... and then ctrl+enter works.
What makes me puzzled is that with one file I made it work but with the next one I can't make it work. And I don't remember what I did. I only believe there is something to be done because of the first file now working. What is this magic trick?
