I have a rather odd project I am starting.
I need to make a design template with various text fields of data. There would be about 100 pages total. The data for these text fields is stored in Excel files. I know that I can just copy and paste the information from one to the other, but I was wondering if there was any way to somehow dynamically link the text field to the spreadsheet so that if data is edited in excel it automatically updates in the indesign file.
Or is there any other solution out there to somehow link data from excel to a template?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Yes, the answer is in your preferences. Create link when placing text or spreadsheet files. Wording may not be exact since I don't have InDesign open right now.
Great! Thanks Bob, that should be exactly what I need!
I know you posted this many years ago now, but did you manage to get this to work? I also have an Indesign file that I have txt and graphics on and I want the text boxes to link to an excel spreadsheet that changed every week. Is it possible to link the 2 up (the indesign and the excel sheet) so that i don't have to keep copying and pasting the copy? Thanks in advance
