1. Re: Win 7/CS5 Can't install Pixelbender for Photoshop
unique_screenname_here Aug 22, 2011 6:03 PM (in response to AltWhitman)Thanks AltWhitman, that helps. Just to be clear, you installed Photoshop CS5 (12.0.0) and updated to Photoshop CS5 plus bug fixes (12.0.4), correct? I will give this scenario a try.

AltWhitman Aug 22, 2011 6:11 PM (in response to unique_screenname_here)Thank you for your reply: "Just to be clear, you installed Photoshop CS5 (12.0.0) and updated to Photoshop CS5 plus bug fixes (12.0.4), correct? I will give this scenario a try."
My answer is yes, this is correct.
(At the risk of getting off topic, I object somewhat to the "to be clear" part. Simultaneously calling the self-same version of Photoshop "CS 5.0" and "12.0" strikes me as terribly unclear, but maybe that's why I'm just a civilian, not a programmer... ;={> )

unique_screenname_here Aug 23, 2011 1:17 AM (in response to AltWhitman)I was able to install the Pixel Bender Plug-in for Photoshop CS5 64-bit into Photoshop 12.0.4 without any troubles on Win7 (64-bit). Did you try running the Extension Manager CS5 executable as Administrator?

5. Re: Win 7/CS5 Can't install Pixelbender for Photoshop
AltWhitman Aug 23, 2011 9:18 AM (in response to unique_screenname_here)Yes, ultimately that worked--thank you.
It's quite confusing because the 5.5 upgrade installs ANOTHER extension manager for the upgraded components only.
I distinctly remember running Extension Manager and wondering why Photoshop wasn't listed, but now I know.
Some observations:(1) As previously mentioned, your error message refers to version 12 of Photoshop without explaining to the poor user that CS 5 is pure marketing fiction and Photoshop is really version 12.
(2) No where pre-sales or post-installation does Adobe explain to the poor user that it is going to run your PC under two parallel but segregated universes, one for CS 5 Untouched and one for CS 5.5 Upgraded. TWO separate Extension Managers! I've never heard of such a thing.
(3) Or is it FOUR, given the potential for running 32bit aps on a 64bit system?
(4) As a matter of fact, the poor user is not even likely to understand which apps will remain at CS 5 level and which ones are coming in as CS 5.5.
(5) The Extension Manager doesn't offer to look for downloaded extensions, but what's worse, if the poor user does the manager's job for it and locates the mxp in the file system, the Manager won't even accept drag and drop--you have to navigate the file system again with a File/Open.
Fortunately, none of these issues would be the responsibility of your department, but really, guys, can you tell somebody how this sux.
Again, thanks for your help. Pixelbender is essential to my work!

6. Re: Win 7/CS5 Can't install Pixelbender for Photoshop
E.Arnold Aug 26, 2011 7:46 AM (in response to AltWhitman)Ok I did some looking at the available down loads and here is the answer.
Pixelblender 2.3 will work on CS5 12.1 with extension manager 5.5.
Pixelblender 2.2 will work on CS5 12.0.4 with the extension manager.
Both are the same program with the same release dates but one is ment for the older version of CS5. Like most people would I looked at the versions of Pixelblender and chose the highest version thinking that was the most up to date version not realizing that the versions are ment for different versions of CS5. Both will still require you to run extension manager as an administrator.

7. Re: Win 7/CS5 Can't install Pixelbender for Photoshop
unique_screenname_here Aug 26, 2011 2:30 PM (in response to E.Arnold)Good catch, E.Arnold. I didn't realize the version had actually been rev'ed. The Pixel Bender version should be identical and even if there are slight changes it will most likely appear identical so pick the version that is built for your installed version of Photoshop. I'll see what I can do about the version numbers listed on the website.

AltWhitman Aug 26, 2011 3:05 PM (in response to AltWhitman)Latest example of Pixelbender-Oilpaint + Topaz Simplify to rotoscope lightning footage.
As I mentioned previously, these two filters are (at least!) the equivalent of a superhero tagteam for stylizing photos and video.
Both have amazing superpowers, but they have some nice complimentarity. ;={>

9. Re: Win 7/CS5 Can't install Pixelbender for Photoshop
difrada Sep 22, 2011 4:01 PM (in response to E.Arnold)I am having the exact difficulty mentioned in the original post. The download process takes me (PS CS5 extended ver 12.0.04 x 64) the Adobe Extension Mgr CS5. I try to install and it asks me to accept (I do) and I also give the OK for administrator changes. It appears to go through a download but when I go to PS with an image open and into the Filter menu there is no indication Pixel Bender is there. I do see other plug-ins as usual. I search for Pixel Bender files using Explorer -- nothing. I have gone under programs both 86 and non-86, Adobe PS . . . plug-ins and nothing to show Pixel Bender presence. What am I doing wrong?

10. Re: Win 7/CS5 Can't install Pixelbender for Photoshop
unique_screenname_here Sep 22, 2011 7:15 PM (in response to difrada)difrada, I do not fully understand your post. Would you please start a new thread and describe in detail the problem you are encountering, the version of Photoshop you are using, which Pixel Bender plugin extension manager package you downloaded and attempted to install, and your install process. That will help me help you diagnose the problem. Thanks.

unique_screenname_here Sep 26, 2011 6:26 PM (in response to lowell6943)lowell6943, you need to download the version of the Pixel Bender installer that is tailored to your version of Photoshop. You should be able to find more information at http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/pixelbenderplugin/. Please start a new thread if this does not resolve your problem.
