Trial version of Audition CS 5.5 cannot interact with Premiere Pro CS5?

    HakanErn Community Member

I have Premiere Pro CS5 and downloaded a trial of Audition CS 5.5. The option "Edit in Audition" in PP CS5 is greyed out, so I cannot test the sound editing interaction between the two PP and Audition.

      What is wrong?

Is it not possible to use PP CS5 with Audition CS5.5?

Is it not possible in the trial version of Audition?

Or am I doing something else wrong...?

Greatful for your time and help!

You need to also update Premiere to CS5.5 for it to work with Audition CS5.5, I'm afraid.

If Audition CS5.5 is registered as the default application for WAV or other audio file types, then "Edit Original" in Premiere should open Audition.  But as Audition CS5.5 didn't exist when Premiere CS5 was developed, it does not have the hooks necessary for "Edit in Audition" for editing clips or sequences.  This functionality was introduced in PPCS5.5.

One potential workaround if you're looking to modify Premiere sequences is to export your sequence to OMF or Final Cut XML, then import this into Audition.  Audition will also export both formats, so you could import a finished project back that way to retain clips and tracks.  Otherwise, you can render a mixdown of your session in Audition and drop this file into Premiere's timeline.

Thanks durin for your kind answer.

Since there is a menu item called "Edit with Audition" it seems as if there at least has been a connection before? So, can I buy/try an earlier version of Audition to make it work?

I want to test if Audition can remove some background noise that occur in one of my productions, before I buy. If it is possible to try it out in an earlier version , I guess I will also be prepared to upgrade PP, but I wont buy anything without knowing it can solve the issue.

              Reagrds and thanks again,

As Durin said if you use "Edit Original" in Premiere the audio should open in Audition and allow you to try Noise Reduction. Do this with a copy of your original file so that you still have an unprocessed version if you don't like it.

                  Thanks for all help!

I just exported the audo to another format and tried some things - does this work the same as if I editied the original soundtrack?

And - My specific problem is that outside my recording site, some cars drive past. Is it possible, with the correct knowledge - which I dont have.. - to reduce or remove this noise in Audition? Thought it is as good to ask you guys who knows, instead of pretending I can do it as a beginner...

A tutorial would be nice, if you know of any!

                  Thanks from a sunny Sweden!
