Do you get any error messages with the crash? Does it happen 100% of the time, or only some of the time? All images, or only some formats?
Did you uninstall the trial before registering the license, or just enter the serial number to activate? Have you installed the 7.5.1 patch?
Thanks for the response, the trial expired and i bought a new disk and loaded it then entered serial number on the back.
The crashing happens when i try and place an image or if i fit proportionally etc.
no error message, it just comes up with a message and download bar telling me that indesign has stopped working and auto closes, when i restart indesign auto recovery kicks in. i tend to only use jpeg format. it happens approx 75% of time, it can happen 5-6 times on one image. I did uninstall trial version prior to loading new disk. haven't installed patch i just pressumed it would automatically download newer versions of the software when i activated.....do i need to manually do it......thanks for the help will see if patch works.
At this point it's pretty hard to tell if the problem is the images or ID, but I suspect it's a bad install.
I would run add/remove programs and uninstall ID, then run the clean script: Resolve installation problems with CS5 Cleaner Tool to remove any leftover traces.
Run MSconfig and turn off unnecessary startup programs and services, especially antivirus and spyware scanners, firewalls, messenger programs, iTunes, and browser helpers and toolbars, then reboot in the modified startup condition. Be sure you are logged in as an administrator and reinistall. Run MS config to restore to normal startup and reboot.
Launch ID, then go to Help > Updates... to get the patch.
Thanks for the assistance so far.....have tried everything, uninstalled ID,
uninstall anti virus, anti malware turn off firewall. ran the clean script,
ran ms config, re-installed ID together with latest patch, and the problem
persists.....as soon as I use the fitting tool to manipulate jpegs I have
placed..... a message appears telling me that ID has stopped working and
windows will close the program. I never had this problem with the ID CS 2
trial......only have had issue with ID CS 5.
I'm pulling my hair out, I notice that ID crashes seems to be common place
Any change if you turn off preflight? Unfortunately it's very difficult to debug Windows Vista crashes. You could try WinDBG if you're brave.
Does it happen with all images? Start with a blank document and place something:
Try a well-known image, like http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/63/Wikipedia-logo.png.
Or actually a JPEG: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/90/Phalaenopsis_%28aka%29.jpg
Do they both show the problem? If not, please make available one of your images.
just some feedback.....I deleted a load of programs some were pdf related
like foxit, disabled everything on startup and using ID with no
problems.....will start turning on start up software and try deduct which
one is causing corruption.....thanks a lot for your advice, most helpful
