    "FAILURE TO INITIALIZE" ADOBE READER 8.3 (Windows XP PROFESSIONAL)

           I am unable to install the Adobe Reader 8.3 on my Dell Optiplex GX150 running Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3.  I downloaded the free software from the Adobe website on another computer; I specified that the software would be used on a computer running Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3, English, version:  8.3.   I loaded the cd-rom in the aforementioned computer, moved the program to my desktop, then attempted to open it.  I received an error message:  "Failure to Initialize."  The computer CPU runs around 850 MHZ, and is not connected to the Internet. 

           Please advise.  Thank you.
