What are your options when you look at interpret footage?

2. Re: 2.35:1 film on Blu-Ray
jackdelamare Aug 31, 2011 8:24 AM (in response to Stan Jones)When I select it as HD Anamorphic, it displays the footage properly with the black bars at the top and the bottom, but it still makes everything 4:3 (black bars at the sides too).
When I selected SD NTSC Widescreen, it wasn't 4:3 (so it filled out the frame) but it squashed it down even more so it had BIGGER black bars at the top and bottom...

JSS1138 Aug 31, 2011 9:30 AM (in response to jackdelamare)I'm trying to get a 1920x817 film into Encore to play correctly on the Blu-Ray.
You can't. Supported HD resolutions are 1920 x 1080, 1440 x 1080, and 1280 x 720.
You need to reexport with the black bars already there.

Ann Bens Aug 31, 2011 1:18 PM (in response to jackdelamare)What is the source. What is the sequence setting and exact export setting in Premiere?

5. Re: 2.35:1 film on Blu-Ray
jackdelamare Aug 31, 2011 3:50 PM (in response to Ann Bens)Surely there's a way for Encore to MAKE this footage 1920x1080 by adding the bars itself... no? Otherwise it's 1920x817. I just exported it 1920x1080 with black bars and obviously this is going to work but it just adds an extra step onto the creation of the Blu-Ray.

6. Re: 2.35:1 film on Blu-Ray
Ann Bens Sep 1, 2011 3:52 AM (in response to jackdelamare)There are two ways, either you make your timeline 1920x818 (make it an even number) or you add black bars in a 1920x1080 timeline.
The export is still going to be 1920x1080.
I would go for adding the black bars in the timeline easy to make in the titler.
If you want it to show in e.g. Vimeo then you can crop off the black bars on export.
Making it look somewhat like this:

thats how i did with the last concert i shot. the client wanted it in 2.35:1, so i opened a 16x9 sequence and added the bars myself as a seperate video track. i knew beforehand i would be doing this, so i shot the footage accordingly. came out very well.

No. You have to do that yourself.

jackdelamare Sep 4, 2011 4:44 PM (in response to JSS1138)Ok thank you - exported with the black bars at 1920x1080 and the footage is working perfectly in Encore. Thanks for your help! However, Encore has now provided me with a new problem as the program freezes when transcoding it. If I could direct anyone who might know anything to this thread here - http://forums.adobe.com/message/3901251
