Chrizzlbla Sep 2, 2011 2:21 AM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)I had a problem with installing the update. I saved the zip on our server and unzipped it, so that my colleagues can install the update, too.
But every time we tried to install the update, an error occured.
Finally we had to copy the update to our desktops and install it from there. Maybe you want to mention this in the future update-postings ;-)
System: Windows and CS5
Edit: Server = network storage / NAS

Aad Metz Sep 2, 2011 5:54 AM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)I get the error that some updates not being installed.
But I don't know which updates.
I have Folio Builder 1.1.4
Content viewer 1.8.0
And the Extion manager saids: DigitalPublishing 7.5.2.13
Do I have to deinstall something?

4. Re: New authoring tools available (Sept 1)
Chrizzlbla Sep 2, 2011 5:59 AM (in response to Aad Metz)I had the same error.
You don't need to deinstall anything. From where do you try to install the update? If you try to install from a network storage, copy the files to your harddrive and try again. That was my issue with it.
You also need to close all Adobe programs.

Franck Payen Sep 2, 2011 2:17 PM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)Well, here sadly on a Motorola Xoom, i won't play with Preview on device (except if someone has a magic trick ?)
By the way 2 things i still miss on the android : video i put still doesn't want to play (plays nice on the ipad and desktop), and 3d panoVR either.
Is this me or did i miss something ?

fredericbotton Sep 2, 2011 2:33 PM (in response to Franck Payen)I managed videos to play on desktop/ipad/android by reencoding using Handbrake (free software), exporting as iPhone4. Sadly on Android, videos always play fullscreen (but that's better than nothing).

Jean-Claude Tremblay Sep 2, 2011 4:11 PM (in response to Matthew Laun)Thanks Matthew for the link... I will need to do that since I get instant crash (building Folio, Adding Article, New, etc) since I have updated to 1.5.
Just tpo be sure can we install and use both Cs5 & Cs5.5 without any conflict?

12. Re: New authoring tools available (Sept 1)
Jean-Claude Tremblay Sep 2, 2011 4:23 PM (in response to Matthew Laun)I have just read that for performing a clean install of CS5.5 we need also to uninstall - reinstall InDesign itself... God, this can’t be more fun... seriously!

13. Re: New authoring tools available (Sept 1)
Aad Metz Sep 3, 2011 3:07 AM (in response to Jean-Claude Tremblay)I first tried to deinstall only the FolioBuilder tools,
but, indeed, you have to deinstall the whole InDesign program.
Arggg!!!#$&**!!
That's know work around wich I can sell to my costumers (end-users)
Adobe: can you create an update that will overwrite the old plug-ins?
Or make a deinstall only for the FPtools?
Please...:)

sorry...;)

grmmph Sep 5, 2011 2:11 AM (in response to Gerdien R.)I hoped that in this version of the folio builder, adobe will bring back the right-to-left binding direction, as promised, so magazine based on asian language can make a use of this tool too.
Bob, is Adobe doing something about bringing back this feature?

Bob Bringhurst Sep 5, 2011 10:06 AM (in response to amitgupta26781)It looks like you updated the Folio Builder panel, but you're still using v11 authoring tools. If you install the v15 (1.5) authoring tools for InDesign CS5, you should see "7.0.4.15" at the bottom of the panel. If you want to update your authoring tools and not just the panel, download and install "1.5.0" authoring tools. Links to the installer pages are found here:

19. Re: New authoring tools available (Sept 1)
Martin Lér Sep 5, 2011 11:34 AM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)Hello Bob, i welcome myself in public forums. I'm quite desperate now. Finaly we are able to use full DPS, so we start to upgrade our tools from Drop 10 to current tools (so i'm on CS 5). Unfortunately even after many tries (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/916/cpsid_91689.html) i'm still stuck with error of folio builder requesting upgrade.
BTW because of quite non-helping names of .dmg i'm even not sure that i'm downloading REALLY the newest tools, because name is just AdobeDigitalPublishingPatch-All and files on this dmg are from 25th of August. Here is screenshot from installation of this update:
Any idea what to do? And no, reinstall CS 5 is not the answer, it's late evening here and i don't have access to medium and serial number in IT section.
And please can you improve informations about what version belongs to which "Drop" (and which viewer is supported by this version), and can you improve naming of downloads so it's crystal clear what is what?
Thank you.

20. Re: New authoring tools available (Sept 1)
Graham Davis Sep 5, 2011 11:37 AM (in response to Martin Lér)I agree with you Martin about the update file naming issue, it needs to have a number so that we know if has already been downloaded.

21. Re: New authoring tools available (Sept 1)
Martin Lér Sep 5, 2011 11:45 AM (in response to Martin Lér)Thanks Graham. Nice to see you here .
And just one note, on our testing version of CS 5.5 without latest update it's fortunately working and i'm able to finish my work (crossing fingers). But even when i tried similar scenario on my CS 5 (full install of version 1.0 and then apply just new version of folio builder from 26th of august), i ended with same "download new version of Folio Builder" dialog.
*sigh*

22. Re: New authoring tools available (Sept 1)
Bob Bringhurst Sep 5, 2011 12:01 PM (in response to Martin Lér)Martin - For InDesign CS5, after you install 1.0, install 1.5. When you install 1.5, you shouldn't be prompted to update the Folio Builder panel. The 1.5 install includes the newest Folio Builder panel.
By the way, today is Labor Day in the United States, so most of us are taking the day off.

I am afraid that you are reproducing wrong installation every time. As Bob said - it must work. It worked for us on one of the working stations, the same configuration. Anywaym, send me your email.

danielbard Sep 6, 2011 12:42 AM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)If you install these authoring tools, the folios you publish are compatible with the current Adobe Content Viewer available on your iPad, Android, and PlayBook devices.
Hi Bob
I downloaded the new v15 folio producer tools, installed it and it works fine.
But i can't view the folios i published now with the new tools (and uploaded to my acrobat.com) with the Adobe Content Viewer-App (v 1.9.0) on my iPad.
Anyone else the same problem?
thank you for your feedback.

danielbard Sep 6, 2011 7:00 AM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)What happens if you try to view the folio? Do you get a "Please update your app" message
No. Its just not displaying the folio i made with the new v15 folio producer tools. No error message. All others i've made with older tools are displaying correctly. All my folios are uploaded to my acrobat.com-Account and are shared with others.
thanks for your help.

30. Re: New authoring tools available (Sept 1)
Martin Lér Sep 6, 2011 9:01 AM (in response to amitgupta26781)My story is still same here. We tried installation of new tools on our second workstation used during beta, and results are same - Folio Builder is asking for update, but there is no update...
Bob, is there ANY diagnostic which we can do to find out what's a problem? At this moment we are not able to work, which is quite sad, because we are now paying customer...
One local idea (from guys from Czech Adobe office) was that it can be because of Czech indesign, but Amit have same problem...
Thanks
Martin

Lukasz Kawecki Sep 6, 2011 9:21 AM (in response to Martin Lér)We have Polish version of InDesign CS 5 on one of our workstations, last week we moved from Content Bundler to new tools (Folio Producer 1.5), installed them without any problems. Folio Builder and Overlay Creator are displayed in Polish.

35. Re: New authoring tools available (Sept 1)
dpsCygnus Sep 8, 2011 12:40 PM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)We have published two magazines to the iTunes store with our current tools.
If we update to the new tools, do we have to rebuild the custom viewer for each and then resubmit the apps to the iTunes store (and wait 14 days for approval)?
-
36. Re: New authoring tools available (Sept 1)
Bob Bringhurst Sep 8, 2011 1:10 PM (in response to dpsCygnus)dpsCygnus - Yes, if you install the new tools and create a new folio, that folio will not be compatible with your existing viewer app. You would need to update your viewer app and re-submit it to Apple. But you don't have to update the tools. You can stick with your current tools, updating your Folio Builder panel as necessary, and then update the tools whenever you're ready.

37. Re: New authoring tools available (Sept 1)
Graham Davis Sep 12, 2011 3:10 AM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)After installining v15 Folio Producer tools I have had 11 days of DPS working without a hitch (and my desktop preview restored). Today I have received that ominous message that left me unable to update my iPad for 10 days prior to the udate, "Cannot Connect to Server at this Time".
I have updated a fairly hefty Stack (144MB) that includes one video and 4 audio files and a lot of stills but these downloaded fine yesterday. I hope that this problem is not due to timeouts caused by a lack of bandwidth in Adobe's servers.
I simply will not accept another outage like the last one so Adobe please assure me that this is not going to happen again.
-
38. Re: New authoring tools available (Sept 1)
Graham Davis Sep 12, 2011 3:48 AM (in response to Graham Davis)*********Update to previous post*********
In desperation I tried updating an almost empty Stack in Folio Builder and it has done the trick, it seeme to kickstart the larger (144MB) Stack into action.
Adobe is this just a coincidence or does this tell you something particulary with regard to timeout issues?

39. Re: New authoring tools available (Sept 1)
Martin Lér Sep 12, 2011 6:09 AM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)Bob, why should i send email to this address? No response so far.
I tried to contact Adobe on phone number which i received from local Adobe office as a Gold support number and guess what - i tried it twice and every time i ended at busy signal (once when i tried it over dial selection to reach InDesign support, second time when some guy tried to switch me to some engineer). Sorry, don't have whole day to sit on phone and try to reach someone (+ it's not free to call there, you know).
So, works like crap and support is same. I can imagine reason for that in free beta, but wait, we paid!
Martin
