cs5.5 losing ability to manipulate clip envelopes, with 5.5 reactions also

I'm trying out the 30 day demo of Audition 5.5 - there can be some advantages to having this beside old trusty and capable 1.5, even before it's finished. It is a lot faster, and has some advantageous VST plugins, even if it's not quite finished.

However, a session where I was using clip volume envelopes became unable to manipulate them. Holding the cursor over the envelop shortly gave a tooltip saying Volume, but no prior points showed, and I couldn't add any new ones.

After the requisite hair pulling, I tried deleting preferences (under Win7, in c:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Audition, you rename or delete the folder named 4.0). This recovered Clip Envelope abilities.

In the same area, there are also Track Envelopes, which may in future be a better way to work most of the time, as you can turn them off. Howeverr this functionality is a bit unsteady to use in the 5.5 initial release.

-- If you use the pulldown to change to Off or Read while playing the track, the setting will be ignored. You have to stop playback before changing the setting, then start it again. Then track envelopes are appropriately read or not read.

-- I have some feeling that it was originally playing with this pulldown that zapped the ability to use clip envelopes as above, so that might be looked into.

Very happy to keep hearing from Durin and others on the Adobe team. This is a big plus for 5.5 itself.

I'm getting along with most things, while still on the learning curve.

One thing that still bothers a lot is the action of the Play Head. I can't seem to get it to return to its original position upon stopping playback, as earlier Audition did. A marker is the only way work can be done, and that's not the best. The other odd thing is the ghostly quasi-marker that appears if you click during playback. This disappears on stopping, so it's not clear what it's useful for, if it is tantalizing.

5.5 seems generally very fast and pretty solid -- appreciating the framework you are freshly building.

      Regards,

      Clive
