2. Re: CS4 freezes when building Blu-Ray
jackdelamare Sep 4, 2011 1:16 PM (in response to John T Smith)Tried all of the above and nothing seemed to work, changed the file name to something much smaller and it's still simply freezing (Encore NOT Windows 7) when it begins to transcode the film.
Not using motion menus and the larger fonts thing I don't get - but I tried a project with JUST the video and no menu and it still froze. Overrides, never used them and never will.
Installed the Roxio component and it solved nothing.
Running as administrator didn't work. It's not a dual layer BDR anyhow, it's only filling up 1/4 of the 25GB Blu-Ray.
On top of this there is no AuthorScriptHDMVSessions folder anywhere to be found.
I'm not burning the project to disc currenlty, just burning the ISO to a folder, and yes there is a lot of space available.

3. Re: CS4 freezes when building Blu-Ray
Keith_Clark Sep 4, 2011 4:47 PM (in response to jackdelamare)It's worth a try to consider transcoding from premiere using media encoder instead, and then build blu-ray in encore. See if that works any better.
-
4. Re: CS4 freezes when building Blu-Ray
jackdelamare Sep 4, 2011 4:57 PM (in response to Keith_Clark)How exactly do I transcode in Media Encoder? Never done this before.

5. Re: CS4 freezes when building Blu-Ray
Keith_Clark Sep 4, 2011 5:06 PM (in response to jackdelamare)Select the fully edited timeline you want to transcode while in premiere, go to "file" then "export" then choose your settings (h.264 BR, 1920x1080, vbr 1-pass and choose the bit-rate that works best for you, and change the audio to Dolby and choose a bitrate that works best for you.) When done choosing settings, click export, to encode there (this seizes your premiere until done) or click queue to transcode in the background with AME (you can still use premiere, but don't edit your current encoding project or it could lock up AME) when it's done you import the assets into encore and pit them on a timeline.

6. Re: CS4 freezes when building Blu-Ray
jackdelamare Sep 4, 2011 5:13 PM (in response to Keith_Clark)Oh that's... what I've been doing this whole time. I've not gone straight from Premiere to Encore, I export (using AME) my timeline in Premiere to a h.264 file and then import as an asset to Encore. Which makes me question, WHY - if it's already been transcoded - does it re-transcode in Encore?
-
7. Re: CS4 freezes when building Blu-Ray
Keith_Clark Sep 4, 2011 5:19 PM (in response to jackdelamare)Oh, ok. When you Import your assets into encore, does the project panel or whatever SAY it's "untranscoded"? If it doesn't then it's already transcoded. For me, to encoded a blu-ray, it just takes forever and a day. It's just a more drawn out process to build. Assets are transcoded, just takes longer. But that was my only suggestion, was use AME, but if your already following it... I got nothing else. encore never locks up on me. hopefully someone else has more suggestions...

8. Re: CS4 freezes when building Blu-Ray
jackdelamare Sep 4, 2011 5:21 PM (in response to Keith_Clark)Yes it does, it says that the files are untranscoded. What the hell?
-
9. Re: CS4 freezes when building Blu-Ray
Keith_Clark Sep 4, 2011 5:25 PM (in response to jackdelamare)Are you doing 1-pass vbr, 2-pass vbr, or CBR? we recently found a bug where 2-pass vbr for blu-ray does not pass along the transcoded flag so it has to do it again. Until adobe fixes it, for blu-ray use 1-pass vbr or CBR only for exporting from premiere.

10. Re: CS4 freezes when building Blu-Ray
jackdelamare Sep 4, 2011 5:28 PM (in response to Keith_Clark)Ah... I'm doing a 2-pass vbr. So all I need to do to fix this problem is export my film using a 1-pass vbr? Simply, that?

11. Re: CS4 freezes when building Blu-Ray
Keith_Clark Sep 4, 2011 5:30 PM (in response to jackdelamare)Well, try it atleast

12. Re: CS4 freezes when building Blu-Ray
jackdelamare Sep 5, 2011 8:58 AM (in response to Keith_Clark)I think it was partly an error on my behalf - I chose the preset 'h.264' instead of 'h.264 Blu-Ray'. Choosing the latter made the film not transcode in Encore so the Blu-Ray burnt quickly. While the ISO isn't currently playing on my computer, I'm hoping it's just a codec error. Media Player just says "Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD. The disc was created in a manner that the Player does not support."
So I'm hoping it's just a codec error (if not what is it?) but other than that NOW I've got it to work. Thank you for your help!

13. Re: CS4 freezes when building Blu-Ray
Keith_Clark Sep 5, 2011 9:19 AM (in response to jackdelamare)H.264 is a for YouTube, vikeo, digital devices and uPloaring to webpages and such. Not for blu-ray. Blurry is h.264 blu-ray. Now to play it, I dOnt think windows media plays iso files. (I've never tried it atleast) how ingest my blu-rays is I change the folder to an iso file using 'img burn' then I mount the file using 'DVD-fab virtual drive' (do a simple web search query for both those. Free.) then I use Cyberlink Power DVD to play it. After it's mounted. Try those? Or heck windows media MAY play it after. It's ISOed and mounted correctly.

14. Re: CS4 freezes when building Blu-Ray
John T Smith Sep 5, 2011 9:23 AM (in response to jackdelamare)You might go to google and enter
site:forums.adobe.com iso player
to see if you can find mention of a player that works with a bluray image
Or, have encore create a hard drive folder instead of an ISO, and then play from inside that folder

15. Re: CS4 freezes when building Blu-Ray
jackdelamare Sep 5, 2011 9:24 AM (in response to Keith_Clark)Ok I've got that now, glad that's sorted the problem!
As for the ISO, I did mount it using Daemon Tools Lite - but it's default program is Media Player and it gives me the previous message when I open it.
