crsouser Sep 5, 2011 10:46 AM (in response to john beardsworth)Does it truly seem like from my post that I did absolutely no research, hadn't tried anything, or hadn't previously read this TechNet note (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/843/cpsid_84313.html) or any other research before posting?!? WTF?
johnbeardy; I know you are a Lightroom expert and I read your blog but... Seriously thanks for nothing.
Anyone who actually read my post care to reply?

3. Re: What does the Previews.lrdata do; and how to move it to a different location than the catalog?
john beardsworth Sep 5, 2011 11:11 AM (in response to crsouser)Sorry if I was a bit concise / abrupt, but you'll see that only three items down the list of FAQs is How to move Lightroom Previews folder to a seperate drive in Windows 7 or Mac OS X. I don't think it is really an FAQ but it is explained well enough for your OS not to need repetition.
As for what previews.lrdata does, it's a set of folders containing all the thumbnails and larger images you actually see in grid, filmstrip, slideshow etc - optimised JPEGs showing your images' current adjusted state. Delete it and LR will simply start creating them again on an "as needs" basis. Deleting it might be a good thing - flushing the system of LR2 or other old previews, sometimes corruption, and freeing up space. It's different from the Adobe Camera Raw cache whose location you seem to have changed. That is shared with Bridge and its Adobe Camera Raw plug-in and it mainly affects rendering when you move from one image to another in Develop. Better?John
