Can anyone help me out?
Thanks in advance if u can.
1) In bkg > projectorDarkness: actions, frames 1,21, Change bkg to _parent, ie "bkg.projector._visible = 1;" to "_parent.projector._visible = 1;"
2) What is the desired effect?
Ah, I think I got it. Masks show the part that it is covering, as opposed to the part is is not covering. So to fix your .fla, simply fill in the "missing" area of your mask with say a red fill, then delete the original surrounding mask.
the "_parent.projector._visible = 1;" worked (although i also had to put the "_parent" on bkg.projectorDarkness._visible = 0; as well), is there a reason why the _parent works and not the bkg.
because i have other actions that use bkg. and they work!!!
but in regards to the mask, the effect i'm after is that the whole area should darken, except for the screen (when the screen comes down), and then the whole area lightens up again when the screen goes back up.
thanks for yr quick reply btw
Yeah I meant ALL the bkg's, sorry I wans't clear. The problem using bkg is that the code is in the timeline of bkg.projectorDarkness. So when you have a relative path, it will look from bkg.projectorDarkness, and in essense, your swf was looking for bkg.projectorDarknesss.bkg.projectorDarkness. However, _parent means to look from the parent timeline, and sure neough the parent of projectorDarkness is bkg.
Note, you could be using this._visible = 0; instead of _parent.projectorDarkness as we are in the projectorDarkness timeline, so "this" will reference it.
Read my previous post regarding how to fix the second problem.
if you look at the keyframes that show the tweening of the screen coming down and lock all the layers you'll get the idea of what i'm after (but for some reason when it's exported it's not working)
you know what it was in the end?
the mask object is too big!!! Flash doesn't seem to be able to handle it! If i make the mask size smaller it works!!! which doesn't relly help me out because i need the whole screen to go dark, so to solve this i've had to make seperate smaller groups of rectangles that make up the mask!!!
thanks for the help anyhow NSurveyor, your a champ!
Glad you got it working.
And you're welcome.
