Is there anyway to make InDesign CS5.5 hide the ruler by default when opening docs?

I've got my templates all set up so I don't need to see the ruler anymore. I wish it would not appear every time I open a doc.

When no document is open in InDesign, choose View > Hide Rulers. Then whenever, you create a new document, the rulers will not be showing.
