2. Re: No Sound After Export
andrewmcgibbon Sep 19, 2011 2:22 PM (in response to JSS1138)I have tried VLC and Quicktime. I also should have said, I have no trouble hearing audio directly in Premiere Pro.
Thank you for your help.

3. Re: No Sound After Export
JSS1138 Sep 19, 2011 2:25 PM (in response to andrewmcgibbon)OK.
After the file is played in VLC, and without closing VLC, open and play another media clip you know to have audio. Does that still work?

4. Re: No Sound After Export
Bill Hunt Sep 19, 2011 3:14 PM (in response to andrewmcgibbon)When you run the muxed file through MediaInfo, what does it show for the Audio stream? You should get all of the specs., plus the CODEC used.
Good luck,
Hunt

andrewmcgibbon Sep 20, 2011 10:21 AM (in response to Bill Hunt)To Jim's suggestion, I tried opening another video known to have sound in VLC and it played with sound without a problem.
To Bill's suggestion, here is what is under the Audio section after running it through MediaInfo:
Audio

JSS1138 Sep 20, 2011 12:44 PM (in response to andrewmcgibbon)OK.
I'm not seeing anything obvious here. Maybe try uploading the file so others can test it?

Colin Brougham Sep 20, 2011 1:02 PM (in response to andrewmcgibbon)I think Jim is referring to the exported movie, not the source file.

10. Re: No Sound After Export
JSS1138 Sep 20, 2011 7:06 PM (in response to andrewmcgibbon)Well, playback confirms there's no audio. Brining the file back into PP, the waveform display shows no audio. So there really is no audio there, even though there is an audio track.
My only guess is operator error. You have the track muted or something.

11. Re: No Sound After Export
andrewmcgibbon Sep 22, 2011 2:22 PM (in response to JSS1138)When I went into the PP file I right clicked on the audio and went into Audio Gain... The audio gain was set to 0db. Do you think this might be the problem? I am really stymied by this and why I can't get any sound on this file.
Thank you everyone for your help.

Bill Hunt Sep 22, 2011 2:28 PM (in response to andrewmcgibbon)The audio gain was set to 0db. Do you think this might be the problem?
Absolutely.
For a bit of an overview on the ways and places to adjust the volume of Audio, this ARTICLE might be useful.
Good luck,

13. Re: No Sound After Export
SFL46 Sep 22, 2011 2:32 PM (in response to andrewmcgibbon)No, an audio gain setting of 0 db means that there is no gain being applied. a negative value indicates reduced gain, a positive value indicates an increased gain. In adjusting gain, your shoot for a level of 0 db or less. You may want to read up on audio files and formats
Could this have been a copyrighted source?

14. Re: No Sound After Export
Colin Brougham Sep 22, 2011 3:43 PM (in response to SFL46)I don't think it's got any sort of DRM on it--I was able to export an MP4 using the MP3 as an audio source. That's not to say it's not copyrighted, of course, but I have a feeling that Andrew has the OK to use this.
SFL46 is correct; audio gain of 0dB is fine--assuming there is audio there.
You hear audio when playing back the sequence, right? What about if you export (even a small piece) to a different format--say QuickTime or AVI? Any audio then?
As mentioned, I was able to use the MP3 to create an MP4 with audio, so it's something in the sequence. Could you post your project file? No media needed...

15. Re: No Sound After Export
Bill Hunt Sep 22, 2011 3:58 PM (in response to SFL46)Oops, sorry. Need glasses (or monitor) cleaned. I read that as -oodB Gain, and not 0dB Gain. My bad, and thank you for that correction.

Colin Brougham Sep 23, 2011 12:41 PM (in response to andrewmcgibbon)What version of Premiere Pro are you using? When I tried to open this in both CS5 and CS5.5, I get the Convert Project dialog which suggests this was from earlier than CS5. Is that the case? Or are you on a Mac?
For what it's worth, I exported successfully (using the MP3--I don't have the AIF you used) using CS5 and CS5.5 on a PC.

18. Re: No Sound After Export
andrewmcgibbon Sep 23, 2011 1:02 PM (in response to Colin Brougham)My apologies, this is CS4 and NOT CS5. Everything else I own is CS5, thus the confusion.

Colin Brougham Sep 23, 2011 1:05 PM (in response to andrewmcgibbon)Ah, there you have it. May be a bug in CS4 that wasn't squashed. I haven't used CS4 in many moons, so I have no idea. You might try over here: Premiere Pro CS4 & Earlier
