Did I read the instructions wrong? I have a 116-page book. When I export to PDF for Print, it exports properly, showing one page at a time. When I export PDF Interactive, the two-page spreads come out as single wide pages, and I end up with a 58-page book in landscape format. I've tried every setting. Yes, I selected "single page" in the Layout field (if I select "Two up", I end up with 4-page spreads on screen).
Advice? I'm sure I'm missing something obvious. Thanks.
This catches almost everyone by surprise. It's actually by design, though judging by posts here not necessarily the best design decision. There are a couple of ways to deal with this via scripting. One toggles the export spreads function off for interactive PDF export ( see Interactive PDF from InDesign CS5 Always Has Spreads On | InDesignSecrets).
Another method is to split the spreads before exporting (see InDesignSecrets » Blog Archive » Breaking Pages Apart to Bleed Off a Spine and http://www.printisrael.com/indesign/scripts/freeware/SeparatePages.jsx).
Be sure you read through all the comments in both articles. If you don't know how to install a script, see How to install scripts in InDesign | InDesignSecrets
Thanks, Peter, for the fast and excellent response.
