Is there a way of creating dynamic text areas within a AE comp which can be exported to Flash so that you can add dynamic text over the top of the rendered AE video to fit the animation?
For example, it would be great to have lots of moving / spinning text whose x, y and z positions were tracked and fed into Flash so that the actual text could be altered on the fly and still fit with the original animation. The orginal video would be imported into flash so that the dynamic text could be layered over the top.
Any help with which direction I should go with this is greatly appreciated.
The common approach is to export keyframes using the XFL format and then do all the magic in Flash. No need to do anything fancy in AE, just create a solid as a placeholder and animate it the way you want, then export. In Flash you'd then simply substitute it with a nested stage/ symbol. Depending on what exactly is required, though, you may get this done a lot better directly in Flash - the many keyframes from the export will considerably impact performance.
Thanks Mylenium - that's helped a lot. From reading your answer I searched for 'keyframes' and found a video on Adobe TV which has a great example: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/max-2008-design/the-motion-graphics-dream-team-after-effects-fla sh-cs4/
Thanks for your help.
