1. Re: Is there a practical, economical way to use Streaming Video (flvs or f4vs)
SE_0208 Sep 29, 2011 11:46 AM (in response to reindeer4)I don't know what is your budget but FMS comes with Streaming Edition which would cost around 1000$ (though i am not sure about exact price - you can check on adobe site or reseller).
Streaming is always preferrable over Progressive download for various reasons (you can just google - Progressive download vs Streaming - you should get most of the reasons).
I will post with some more details - but i thought i will just give something for you start thinking about or investigate about

reindeer4 Sep 29, 2011 12:03 PM (in response to SE_0208)Thanks. Would love to hear whatever insights you're able to provide.
As for budget - I currently spend about $12 a month with 1&1 web hosting (and a similar amount for another web host specifically for Drupal).
So spending $1000 to get my own flash streaming server probably isn't in the cards right now.
Didn't know if streaming is feasible with any of the shared hosting providers or some other alternative.

Graeme Bull Sep 29, 2011 2:00 PM (in response to reindeer4)Since you're not up to getting your own server and software I would suggest shared FMS hosting, try www.influxis.com. They provide custom plans on what you may need. There's no reason to have FMS on the same server for your particular needs I think.

reindeer4 Sep 29, 2011 2:54 PM (in response to Graeme Bull)Ok - took a peak at influxis and their varied packages. Guess I'll have to see how busy my site gets once it's up and running so I can decide on my likely needs for bandwidth etc.
If I post my flvs on YouTube, is there any way to stream those into my site in a controlled manner with ActionScript 3 and Flash?
(And to have cuepoints in the streaming file trigger events in other swf files? ) I need the video integration to be seamless and controllable through scripting.
Thanks

5. Re: Is there a practical, economical way to use Streaming Video (flvs or f4vs)
Graeme Bull Sep 29, 2011 4:25 PM (in response to reindeer4)Not likely. Youtube reencodes the video and in turn will strip out any cuepoints. You could try once though as I've never tried and it's more "a theory that makes a lot of sense" at this point in time.
