You did not provide a shred of useful info, which makes this whole post pointless - without operating system and hardware info, nobody can even begin to guess at a possible fix. Additionalyl, provide the relevant sections from the install/ updater logs...
How, exactly, are you trying to install the update?
Are you choosing Help > Updates? If so, how is it that you're installing the 10.0.1 update? The 10.0.2 update is the current one for After Effects CS5.
If you're attempting to isntall the update through a manual download, try not doing that, and use the automatic method instead.
Tell us more about your system. What operating system?
Pleasant way to start a conversation. I guess error codes don't actually stand for anything so what's the point.
So the automatic process through Help > Updates never found the After Effects update although it updated the rest of my creative suite. It still doesn't and the Adobe Application Manager would hang so I had to trash it and reinstall it.
I saw this Twitter post from 2 days ago from AdobeAE that read "Install bug-fix updates for Adobe Media Encoder and After Effects. See this page for details: bit.ly/lsrkmJ fb.me/13vZkWFOC" and the link brought me to this page:
That is what lists the AE 10.5.1 update and provides a link that goes here (your blog post it seems, but I notice now that its):
That post says:
"This update is not available through the automatic update mechanism. You must download the update packages from the download pages for Windows or Mac OS, using the “Adobe After Effects CS5.5 10.5.1 Update” links. The links are not at the top of the page, where I expected to find them."
SO, that's why I did the manual process and the 10.0.1 update, because of the information Adobe put out on its Twitter feed, which linked to the wrong page evidently, after the automatic process didn't work.
I'm running a Mac Pro 2.66 Quad-Core on Lion 10.7.1
I would be happy to provide error logs if you can tell me where to pull them from. As I mentioned above, the Adobe Support app did not provide any useful information.
You're mixing up two updates. You mention the 10.5.1 update and then the 10.0.1 update. Which do you mean? Are you attempting to install the 10.0.1 update (which is for CS5) on After Effects CS5.5? If so, that's your problem.
I would just like the latest update to after effects, and everything I have seen from Adobe is confusing about what that is and how I should do it.(as I detailed above).
I just ran Help > Updates from inside AE again, and it says there aren't any updates and About is telling me my version is 10.5.023.
So if you could tell me what that latest update is and point me to where I can download it, that would be most helpful. Thanks.
If you're using After Effects CS5.5, the latest update is 10.5.1. See this page. As that page says, this update is not available through Help > Updates. This update fixes two bugs. It is not a critical update unless you need it for those two bugs. Neither of them are crashes, so this won't help with the crashes that you mention.
The reason that you got an error is that you tried to install an update (10.0.1) that is for After Effects CS5, not After Effects CS5.5.
The bulleted list on this page lists the most recent update for each version of After Effects.
OK, I see where I went wrong. Thanks.
Little disappointed about it not fixing the crashes. It's happening almost every time I open After Effects. The adobe team has a lot of crash reports from me!
If you start a new thread with the details of your crashing problems, we may be able to help you to fix or work around those.
Start by providing as much detail as possible about your computer system, your source footage types, and your compositions.
