Flash Player won't install

I was watching a video, when suddenly it stopped and the screen was replaced by some image, I go to YouTube, now I can't watch anything and it tells me to go get the new flash player.  I go and download it, at 50% it stops and tells me to turn off 'internet explorer'. I had closed the windows, closed all running programs and still it told me this.  How am I suppose to turn off Internet Explorer?

Download the installer from the link in http://forums.adobe.com/thread/889580 and save it to disk.  Close all browser windows, then run the downloaded installer.
