Hi Everyone. I have one of the old 1800's maps still of a city in Wisconisn called Bayfield. Being on lake Superior the map has several steamships in the harbor and on water. What I would like to do with this still is animate the plumes of smoke coming from the stacks of the ships. Any suggestions would help. Thanks Roman
You can either create the smoke using a particle system or a masked layer of fractal noise. Particular would be a very good particle system. The other option would be to look at some stock footage from someone like ArtBeats. Once you've created the smoke layer you position it and set the blend mode to Screen or Add then adjust opacity.
Rick's certainly pointing you in the right direction. Personally, I prefer using footage of smoke rather than particle effects in almost all cases. It's easier and usually looks better. More information about compositing smoke and steam is here:
