"Oil Paint" for improving resized images

I developed a fairly high-resolution view of my character design in collaboration with an accomplished Japanese illustrator, and assumed it would upscale nicely to 17x30" for a poster.

Unfortunately, it developed a case of the jaggies when the print was inspected at close range.

Hunting around for a solution, I resized the image 200% and then ran it through Pixel Bender/Oil Paint.

(By the way, thanks for removing the previous size restrictions on images accepted by Pixel Bender!)

Oil Paint radically smoothed out the jaggies in the organic shapes of the character outline.

Now, granted, the internal features get smeared, particularly the face.

However, if you're willing to composite the before and after images to get the smooth outlines, this is a compelling solution.

Unless Adobe has a better solution for this problem, I'd like to see some sort of Oil Paint brush that could be applied selectively... (unless, of course, I should have learned how to use masks!)
