4. Re: Audio problem--audio tracks contain only STATIC
metrov Oct 15, 2011 4:29 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)This is what a sample clip's "Properties" tells me in Premiere:
Image Size: 1920 x 1080
Pixel Depth: 32
Frame Rate: 23.976
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
Total Duration: 00:03:56:23
Average Data Rate: 2.9 MB / second
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0
Is that what you mean?
Thanks!

5. Re: Audio problem--audio tracks contain only STATIC
Bill Hunt Oct 15, 2011 4:35 PM (in response to metrov)Thanks. Looks like there is compression in the file's Audio Stream. With AVCHD, I would assume that it's AC3.
In CS4, there was no AC3 decoding, until about CS 4.1, or 4.2. Once, one could just Copy over the AC3 .dll from Encore, but as of CS 4.0.0, that did not work anymore. If you have not updated your CS 4, that would be the first thing that I would do, as with one of the updates, AC3 was finally fully implemented into PrPro. Usually, this lack of AC3 resulted in an error, on Import, but you did not mention any errors, so I am not sure that it's what you are faced with. Still, updating, if you have not done so, is a good first step.
Then, when Importing the muxed file, make sure that you allow for PrPro to fully Conform the Audio. This ARTICLE goes into more detail on Conforming.
Good luck,
Hunt

6. Re: Audio problem--audio tracks contain only STATIC
metrov Oct 15, 2011 4:49 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)I'm using Premiere Pro CS4 v.4.2.1. I'm also pretty sure conforming has completed since I left Premiere open and running all night after first importing the video/audio files. btw...there's far more than just one muxed file, there are over a hundred, and the audio is the same on all of them -- pure static. Thanks
p.s. I've edited plenty of ACVHD video files in this version of Premiere; never had this problem before.

Jeff Bellune Oct 15, 2011 4:51 PM (in response to metrov)What camera recorded these files? If it's a Sony NX5, then likely the audio is LPCM, and CS4 can't handle that.

9. Re: Audio problem--audio tracks contain only STATIC
Jeff Bellune Oct 15, 2011 8:29 PM (in response to metrov)Yup. It's probably LPCM audio. You're hosed unless you can convert the audio. If Sony doesn't have a proper utility, then you'll have to resort to 3rd-party solutions that can demux the audio from the video and convert it to uncompressed WAV files or some kind of compressed audio format.
If you're using Windows, you may want to investigate the Doom9 forums for free tools that can split off the audio; possibly tsdemuxer will work.
If you're on a Mac, then you may simply be out of luck until you upgrade to CS5.5.

10. Re: Audio problem--audio tracks contain only STATIC
Bill Hunt Oct 16, 2011 7:18 AM (in response to Jeff Bellune)Jeff,
Just a question with that LPCM Audio, as I have not worked with it, but programs, like Audacity can rip Audio from many muxed files. If so, it can then Save_As PCM/WAV @ 48KHz 16-bit, which should work. Whether Audacity can rip the LPCM is my question.
To the OP, good luck,
Hunt

12. Re: Audio problem--audio tracks contain only STATIC
metrov Oct 16, 2011 10:20 AM (in response to Jeff Bellune)Jeff, thanks a million. I'll now try to convert the audio tracks (while keeping them linked to their video counterparts). Someone told me Soundbooth might work. Will try it this afternoon. If that doesn't work, I'll try some other programs. If all else fails, I'll just view the clips with some external player (VLC), make my notes, then edit from there.
btw... do we know if CS5 for PCs can handle the LPCM files?

13. Re: Audio problem--audio tracks contain only STATIC
Jeff Bellune Oct 16, 2011 10:32 AM (in response to metrov)Yes. CS5 and CS5.5 both handle the LPCM audio in Sony .mts files perfectly.

17. Re: Audio problem--audio tracks contain only STATIC
metrov Oct 17, 2011 6:52 PM (in response to metrov)Dear Jeff Belune,
I upgraded my Premiere to 5.5, and my ACVHD soundtracks still consist of STATIC only. So apparently, the upgrade did not solve the problem? I notice that when I open a video clip "properties," it says:
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
I know my system and software are 64 bit, not 32. Could this be a hint?
Any other suggestions? I have a director crawling down my neck with a deadline for this project.
Thanks a million

18. Re: Audio problem--audio tracks contain only STATIC
Jeff Bellune Oct 18, 2011 6:55 AM (in response to metrov)That's probably because of leftover cache files from CS4. Delete the .cfa and .pek files associated with one or more of those clips, and then go to Edit | Preferences | Media and clean the media cache database.

Keith Moreau Nov 23, 2011 10:20 AM (in response to Jeff Bellune)I have Premiere Pro 5.5.2 and Mac OS 10.7.2, I just got a Sony FS100, shot in 1080 60P LPCM mode, when I import the footage, Premiere Pro doesn't think there is sound. Is this fix limited to non-60P Footage?

23. Re: Audio problem--audio tracks contain only STATIC
Bill Hunt Nov 24, 2011 8:11 AM (in response to Keith Moreau)PrPro has some issues with LPCM Audio. What other modes are available on the camera?
You can also convert the LPCM to another format, in say Audition, or Soundbooth.
Good luck,

26. Re: Audio problem--audio tracks contain only STATIC
Keith Moreau Nov 24, 2011 2:27 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)My problem, I believe is that Premier Pro 5.5.2 doesn't support audio import 1080 60P AVCHD with LPCM audio. It just doesn't recognize there is audio in the file, in at least 30P mode it does recognize the LPCM audio. I hope Adobe can fix this. My discussion on the 5.5.2 problem is here:
