1. Re: standard 1440x1080i mpeg2 preset produces smooth edges in premiere but jaggy edges in encore.
nados Oct 15, 2011 8:25 PM (in response to nados)I did notice that when i left the transcoding preset to "Automatic", Encore produced a smooth edged video. Does anyone know how "Automatic" differs from the "1440x1080i High Quality mpeg2" preset?

nados Oct 16, 2011 6:17 AM (in response to nados)opps... I spoke too soon...
"Automatic" did not produce smooth edge results. Something else did but i don't know what at this time. I'll keep posting until i figure it out.

Ann Bens Oct 16, 2011 9:50 AM (in response to nados)Dont use anything that says match or automatic.
Try exporting from Premiere to H.264 BluRay (its a better codec then mpeg2) to 1440x1080i 25 High Quality with Use Maximum Render Quality and no Use Preview or HDTV 1080i25 also with max render and no preview.
Import this into Encore, make menu and burn.
You can use DL but use one of the above settings which can be set in the Edit Quality Presets.

nados Oct 16, 2011 1:20 PM (in response to Ann Bens)Hi Ann,
You prefer to "Export" not "ADL Send to Encore" from Premiere in "1440x1080i 25" HQ no preview.
So... even though i recorded the footage in "1440x1080i 30", you want me to export it using "1440x1080i 25"? I'm in the USA, so I think you mean either "p 24" or "i 29.97" - right?

5. Re: standard 1440x1080i mpeg2 preset produces smooth edges in premiere but jaggy edges in encore.
nados Oct 16, 2011 4:31 PM (in response to nados)Problem solved! Thanks Ann...
It appears that Encore simply does not get it right all the time. If you're going to produce a DVD or Blu-ray disc, you're better off exporting the sequence media in Premiere using either the H.264 or Mpeg2 Blu-ray export format (H.264 being better but slower). Since the video was shot in 1440x1080i 30 format, i used the H.264 Blu-ray export format and 1440x1080i 29.97 HQ preset. I assume its actually Media Encoder that's encoding the a/v data in Premiere.
I used the same or equivalent preset in Encore, H.264 1440x1080i 29.97 HQ, but it produced a Blu-ray disc with jaggy edges on horizontal or diagonal areas.
So the morale of this story is to export the sequence media in Premiere using either the H.264 or Mpeg2 Blu-ray export format and 1440x1080i 29.97 HQ preset. Then import the data files into Encore, no transcoding required and create your disc.
Although i have not tried it yet, editing a custom profile in Encore to match either the H.264 or Mpeg2 Blu-ray formats and presets in Media Encoder should work as well. However, just ADLing to Encore and selecting the default H.264 1440x1080i 29.97 HQ preset did not work for me.

John T Smith Oct 17, 2011 8:52 AM (in response to nados)I never use Dynamic Link... in large part because I have read several messages like yours, with "odd" problems that are fixed by exporting files from PPro and then importing those files to Encore

nados Oct 17, 2011 9:53 AM (in response to John T Smith)I suspect that the problem could be solved by simply creating a preset that matches all the parameters used in the premiere preset that can be used in Encore. I'll have to try it.
