I have used both and never had a crash on either (in PrP or AE).
Avid DS / PrP / After Effects Editor
Mac Pro 3,1
2 x 3.2 ghz Quad Core Intel Xeon
Nvidia Quadro 4000
24 gigs ram
Maxx Digital / Areca 8tb. raid
Well, you're lucky then. You and I are running similar systems.
As I said, it crashes AE and Pr, and has never been stable. Having it applied on layers in Ae has caused it to crash on startup.
I don't think I'm going to waste money upgrading.
I got around it by spending some time to learn the Boris BCC7 3-Way Color Corrector. It's a much more fully featured plug-in than Colorista 1 and 2, and best of all, it doesn't crash Pr or Ae.
The original Colorista has never crashed for me either, running Windows 7.
