    Caching of SWF

How long are .swf files cached for in the browser or even with the standalone flash player? For the project I'm working on, we would like them to be cached as long as the .swf file on the server hasn't been updated.

The typical HTTP caching mechanism of HTTP Headers and Browsers implementation adherance is what you want to look into.

You could dynamically change the HTML to send no-cache headers when you make an update but this might not work as you don' t know when a user will try and update. You could check their version upon the SWF loading and see if you need to redirect them to a page with no-cache HTTP headers. Even with the HTTP no cache headers you are at the mercy of the browser to implement the functionality.

So it really depends on what you are trying to do, and what the browsers will support.
