On this forum there is a hyperlink on the right to view as PDF and this too is not working. The web page does not close like when attemptin to open with adobe reader x. Instead the page is blank. How do I troubleshoot these adobe reader x problems?
I already had uninstalled adobe reader X and reinstalled it and it did not work as per the initial post.
Did you download the installer from the above location?
Also, could you please let me know, what is the exact behavior when you chose to use File > Open to open a PDF. Does the application crash or just quit?
Furthermore, after installation, please try and repair the installation from within the Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and see if the problem still exists.
I had installed the latest version of reader, X and it was working fine. I used a cdrom which had the option to creeate a large pdf file which (questions, answers, and pictures) of nearly 2000 adobe pages. I then saved it to my desktop. Then I reopened the document and started highlighting. Then I closed the cocument and it was resaved. It took a very long time to save with very little modification with the new highlighting. Then I decided to reopen the document and was not able to. Each time I clicked on this icon or any PDF document icon it was not responsive. Then I opened reader which worked fine. Then I went to file then open and chose any pdf file and the documents would not open and the adobe web pages closed or crashed. I repeated this multiple times switching pdf files and all pdf files led to a crash. Then I went to add remove programs and uninstalled adobe reader. Then I went to the adobe site to download the reader X and it reported successful download. Then I repeated the same steps as above. Clicking on a pdf file did not open the document and opening adobe reader and then choosing a document to open led to a crash of the adobe window. Since that latest episode I have rebooted my computer and I think this solved the problem. It was not listed as a requirement to reboot and in this case it appears that it was necessary to correct the problem. It is unclear to me what started the problem. It is unclear to me why the uninstall and reinstall did not work. At the present time I have gone to msconfig and removed adobe from either the start up or services and rebooted and it has worked again.
I now have a separate question about the use of the adobe pdf files:
When viewing a large file such as 2000 pages. A highlight triggers do you want to save the document.
Then a yes triggers the same document was found and do you want to replace.
Then a yes triggers the bar for the save which takes a very long time for the large document.
Is there any other options when highlighting a large document? Does it have to take 5 to 10 minutes for each save?
