1-What update level are you for CS5? (I think current is 5.0.3)
2-What Firewire driver are you using?
Legacy Driver and Capture http://forums.adobe.com/thread/869277?tstart=0
- And a Picture http://forums.adobe.com/thread/727755?tstart=0
3-What camera brand & model?
4-How many hard drives, and which one is your capture drive?
5-Have you tried different capture software?
SD capture http://windv.mourek.cz/ or http://www.scenalyzer.com/main.html or http://www.exsate.com/products/dvcapture/
Do note that the demo version of ScenalyzerLive puts a watermark in the files it creates
- I'm told that the OLD version of Scenalyzer is freeware... check the download page for details
Try this for HDV capture http://strony.aster.pl/paviko/hdvsplit.htm
My best guess is that you have blank gaps in the tape. These can occur when you remove and reinsert the tape, when you reuse a tape, when the tape heads are dirty and need cleaning, etc.
HERE ARE THE ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS... THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO RESPOND.
1-What update level are you for CS5? (I think current is 5.0.3) I HAVE THE MOST CURRENT VERSION
2-What Firewire driver are you using? I CHANGED TO THE "LEGACY DRIVER" AS SUGGESTE BUT I STILL HAD LOST CONNECTION ISSUES WITH PREMIERE PRO CAPTURE.
3-What camera brand & model? PANASONIC AG DVC-30 (IN EXCELLENT CONDITION)
4-How many hard drives, and which one is your capture drive? 2 DRIVES, AND CAPTURE IS TO MAIN DRIVE (c:). WIN 7 ULTIMATE, i7 2.80 GHz
5-Have you tried different capture software? I DOWNLOADED THE TRIAL VERSION OF SCENALYZER AND IT CAPTURED THE VIDEO WITH NO ERRORS. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO PURCHASE IT, DIGITAL RIVER SAID IT WAS NO LONGER AVAILABLE??? IT THIS THE BEST VIDEO CAPTURE SOFTWARE IN YOUR PROFESSIONAL OPINION? THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE.
IN RESPONSE TO THE LATER COMMENT ABOUT "BLANK GAPS" IN THE TAPE, I USE NEW HIGH QUALITY TAPES AND A HEAD CLEANER TAPE AS RECOMMENDED. I ALSO NEVER REMOVE AND REINSERT TAPES IN THE MIDDLE OF A RECORDING SESSION. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT IS THE ISSUE, BUT I THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUGGESTION.

Check the firewire cable, connection to the camera and the computer.
Might want to test it on a different computer and or with different cable.
Not exactly sure what the actual problem was, but I did replace my old firewire cable with a Monster Cable, FireLink 300 cable. Adobe email support also recommended disabling UAC and the firewall/antivirus. Collectively, the actions appear to have solved the problem as I have captured 6, 1-hour videos without any issues.
Glad you are up and running again.
I was having some connection problems myself recently. Never during capture, but it got to the point one day where even Windows couldn't see the camera.
A new cable seems to have solved mine as well.
