Here is John J Metzger's quote from another thread, earlier today:

...USB sideloading is already available on Android through the folio builder panel and is just awaiting Apple's approval of the latest Adobe Content viewer app update to enable on iOS. Again, this is available as part of the free solution (on IOS it does require a 3rd party piece of software called PhoneDisk).

This calls for a nice ice cream with whip cream to celebrate !

You mean sideloading by which you can only load or own files, correct? Full sideloading - where ANYBODY with an iPad can load your file - isn't coming back.

Yeah, what I thought. I mean, cool and all but why even call it sideloading when it's not even close - at least in terms of the controversial issue we came to all know and love...

Now that preview is coming, does that mean we can finally get rid of the blue lighting bolt?

It's not called sideloading. It's called Preview on Device. Colin calls it tethered preview. Apple is currently in the process of reviewing the feature for approval.

Hmm... so we should call it "cable tethered previewing on device assisted by funny utility". And I guess InDesign and that PhoneDisk app directly put the Folio into the right folder for the Viewer to look in, thus cloaking the folio file and requiring a cable. Nice ? Well, it helps. And it sure takes a lot of load from the LANs, WiFi's and Adobe's bashed and beaten distribution server. And I did have my ice-cream already, so I'm good.

ha ha, is it true that Adobe killed side loading also because people used
tools to get into the file system of the iPad and could grab the content
from downloaded folios there ... now Adobe requires us to use exactly this
tool to enable side loading.

I really like the thing mag+ is doing. You keep their mag+ Reviewer open in
the same WiFi network and can just push your folio onto the device. Bad for
200+MB folios.

But I heard within the next releases, the folios will keep staying on your
device even after disconnect. Maybe then we get delta updates too.
