I first posted this discussion on the InDesign Scripting Forum and was redirected here. I'm working on my first InDesign extension and I'm wondering how to handle the multiple versions of the extension. Is there something that Adobe has in place to manage distributing the extension that would notify the users when a new version is available or is it something that I have to do myself?
Also how can you access the current version of your extension with actionscript (the one set in the Bundle Manifest)?
Thanks in advance for your help.
I don't know a way of accessing the version set in the manifest. What I usually do is duplicate that info as a constant inside the extension itself.
You can use the functionality of Extension Manager to handle updates, but the presupposes the user actually opens Extension Manager -- not a good supposition...
I created my own updater.

Thanks Harbs, I'll probably go down this road too then. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't re-inventing the wheel.
