1. Re: Can't Capture from Sony HDV-Z1 into Premiere Pro CS5
Harm Millaard Oct 25, 2011 9:14 AM (in response to nikokanakis)If you shot in DV PAL, capture in DV PAL. Make sure your menu settings on the Z1 reflect that. Don't have a Z1 available now, but check the menu and it will be 'no problemo'.

nikokanakis Oct 25, 2011 9:13 AM (in response to nikokanakis)Thanks Harm,
Yes, that was one of the items that I checked. I have the import/capture settings for DV PAL.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks for the speedy reply. Impressive!

Yiu-kun Oct 25, 2011 9:47 PM (in response to nikokanakis)Unless you're doing televised work, why not shoot in the world-wide standard of 23.976FPS? This would've saved you quite a lot of hassle.
Also, after configuring the IO you need to save and restart the application. A friend of mine running CS5.0 had to do that after hours of struggling. A simple "turn it off and on again" trick.

5. Re: Can't Capture from Sony HDV-Z1 into Premiere Pro CS5
Alan Craven Oct 26, 2011 2:45 AM (in response to nikokanakis)With most Sony HDV cameras or recorders, you have to have the output set to HDV or DV, as appropriate - the AUTO setting will not work. If you change this setting, you must do it with the camera disconnected, then re-connect it via firewire.
I have a broadly similar Sony V1E camera and a sony GV-HD700 recorder, and the above applies to both of them - as does the need to change the firewire driver to "legacy".
Apart from the above there should be no problem if you are capturing to a project with the same settings as the camera. As Harm sdays, If you are trying to capture to an NTSC project from a tape recorded as PAL, it simply will not work. You will have to do the conversion on export.

6. Re: Can't Capture from Sony HDV-Z1 into Premiere Pro CS5
anthony102504 Nov 15, 2012 6:45 AM (in response to Harm Millaard)I have just spent the usual 24 hours searching for a solution. I am so delighted that I found it (on Microsoft) that I wanted to share it here for anybody in the same frustrating postion!
I bought a new monster HP PC. As it didn't come with an IEEE 1394 firewire I bought a Startech card. However my Sony Z1 and CS5.5 capture would only partially work on the new machine; no vision or sound on capture screen and batch didn't work. Tried everything and (the last) one worked!
The JMicron chip has a 'problem', which the nice HP people wrote a new driver for http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareDownloadIndex?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&softwar eitem=ob-74849-1&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN. Apparently it works for other machines.
Harm please put this post where you think others may search.

anthony102504 Nov 20, 2012 9:41 AM (in response to 0to60tv)You thanked me too soon!
Just around the corner ...... PP started crashing, in capture mode, all over the place. In the end a newly bought, different manufacturer's IEEE 1394 firewire card, having a different chip set, worked perfectly from installation and with no driver issues. Fortunately they are cheap but as you see, its 5 days later.
