Typing in a couple of letters creates a new letter...

Hello, I am laying out a book in InDesign and when I type in the letters "hn" together, as when typing the name John, the character "U" with an apostrophe above it automatically replaces the letters "HN." This also happens when I type in the letters "il" together such as in the word "filler". In this case a Y with an apostrophe above it replaces the "il". I have never seen this happen before, I have no idea what is going on. Can someone please help me??
