    Open File window is blank

    mikeklar Community Member

      Well almost -

Since the latest update the "Open" commnad from within Acrobat X Pro displays a blank window with only four tag lines, i.e. "File name" "Files of type" "Open" and "Cancel"

The rest of thw window is blank and when clicking on the "File name" displays only the last ten or twenty opened files in a narrow column which does not allow identifying the actual files by only displaying the first fourteen characters which denotes the drive and part of a folder.

Having run "Repair..." under "Help" did not solve the problem.

This issue did not occur prior to the last update.

      Anyone here expereicned something similar?

      Cheers,

      Michael

What operating system and service pack version are you running?

The operating system is Win 7 x64 Ultimate and Service Pack 1 with all the latest updates installed.

Also, Acrobat X Pro came with Master Suite 5.5.

I'd include an image of the ''Open" window, but my browser is crashing at every attempt to do so.

            Cheers,

            Michael

That's a supported combination, and I've not seen a problem reported by anyone else (if it was a replicable bug we'd be seeing thousands of customer complaints). I suspect that either the Acrobat install has been corrupted, or there's something unusual with your Windows display configuration. Acrobat X will be perfectly happy with Aero, transparency, etc. Are there problems with the dialogs for any other software on your system? Are you using a type of storage (NAS, Web Drives, etc.) that takes a long time to respond?

I suggest you uninstall Acrobat (not the entire CS suite, just the Acrobat component) then re-install it again. If that doesn't help, we really need a screenshot to understand what might be going on.

Just uninstalled Acrobat X Pro, using window's "Uninstall" program and now can't re-install it...

To re-install it CS5.5 Master Collection Installer was used.

In the latter's window selected "Install Options", then "Acrobat X Pro", after a few seconds the "Installation Status" window declares "Exit Code: 7" and under "Summary" the following is dendoted - "1 fatal error, 3 errors, 13 warnings".

Also, the computer was restared after Acrobate X Pro was uninstalled.

FYI Acrobat X Pro has only loaded on this computer !

                Any thoughts?

                Cheers,

                Michael

Ps. for some reason my Browser keeps crashing in this forum when any attempt is made to add a screen shot.  Please feel free to send me an email - [email address removed] and I will provide you with a couple.

Ouch. Hopefully you uninstalled using the CS5.5 entry on the Programs list (by toggling the option for Acrobat). Exit codes are useless in and of themselves, the cause of the error will be in your log files - see here for info on how to read them, and here for info on the rather cool Adobe Support Advisor app, which reads them for you.

As a side issue, what browser are you using? The "insert image" button on the reply box header usually works OK, but you can of course always post the image online (flickr, etc.) and include the link in your reply.

Unfortunately, I used Microsoft's Uninstall program.

I'm using Internet Explorer 9 and it's blaming this webpage causing it to close...

                    Cheers
