You MUST render the AE comp when viewing in on the Premiere timeline. In most cases it will not playback in real time until it is rendered .
Irrespective of the dynamically linked AE comps complexity PrPro CS5.5 displays them yellow in the timeline, which might be misleading (See Red, yellow, and green render bars and what they mean).
So as to get smooth preview playback you need to 'Render Entire Work Area' (not just 'Render Effects in Work Area'!).
If this option is grayed out, you may e.g. select any clip on the timeline and copy it into clipboard (Ctrl/Cmd+C) - Voilà! Access granted.
I think I saw you comment on this before, but I can't quite find it -
I work in the AJA timelines, and I don't get any yellow or red render bars when I come back from AE with a dynamic link - so when I do a "Render Entire Work Area" it doesn't do anything and I can't play back in RT. Do you have a trick for this?
Thanks for your help.
I bumped into the exact same problem and this is how I solved it. It will work until AJA fixes this with new drivers.
Pick a video effect like fast blur and place it on the AE DL clip which is located on your AJA sequence. Be sure its set to "0" so it has no effect on the clip. The timeline will see it and put a render bar on it. Then do like Fuzzy says and "Render Entire Area" and there you go!
Thanks.I pre-rendered in PP not in AE and now it works fine. But the time of rendering almost 5 minutes with a 6 second long AE comp.Is it normal with this config? What do you think?
Render time in PrP of dynamic linked AE objects is dependent on format size, complexity of comp, amount and kind of effects in comp, etc. Does it render faster in AE.? If so, forget dynamic link and render in AE and export as a movie then import into PrP and drop on timeline replacing the DL.. Does this situation involve just 1 comp dynamically linked or more than 1? Obviously, multiple comps linked to PrP will take longer.
Thanks for the tip, Tom. Looking forward to the new AJA drivers - having a few issues with them now and usually end up just going with the adobe playback.
Me too Your very welcome.
I have more than 1 linked comp, and I think its' not a difficult composition, this is a graphic title, with around 8 layers each.I still have problem whit that when I switch from AE to PP window while PP step to the actuall position of the timleine indiactor and show the actuall frame its too slow. And then I click to another frame in PP timeline between the imported AE comp its also slow when I click from one frame to another.
I checked the cpu usage and RAM usage CPU around 50% and RAM around 7-8 GB from 16GB. Do you know what is the best AE settings in preferences?
I read everywhere GTX470 is a good GPU,and this procedure have to be more faster I think.
To render every AE comp to a separated file and import them to a PP project not a good way for me, beacuse thats the point to use together AE and PP.
