How can I use acrobat reader to convert pdf file to Postscript when file's extension isn't pdf ?

Im using Acrobat reader on Linux to convert pdf files to postscript. Im using acroread -toPostScript -pairs <infile> <outfile>.

This works fine as long as the infile has a pdf extension, however if I change its extension to something else (say, "out") I get this error:

"xxxx.out is a wrong argument. Please refer acroread -help for the correct usage"

Is there a way I can force acrobat reader to make the conversion ignoring the input file's extension ?
