Is your new MacBook Pro running Lion? If so, you may expect to have problems with CS4, though I'm not 100%.
Wait for InDesign to hang, and then gather these two diagnostics, and upload them to http://pastebin.com (do not upload them here!):
1. In Activity monitor, select InDesign and choose Sample Process. Save to a file and upload.
2. Also in Activity Monitor, run View > Send Signal: Abort (SIGABRT) and InDesign will crash. Upload the crash report.
Post the pastebin URLs here and we'll tell you what is up.
Did you install Java first?
this is part of the sample it wouldn't let me upload it all
this is the entire computer crash
And I am running Lion and I am not sure on the Java. It seems to already be on the computer. Thanks for your help.
Wow, I'm sorry for the delay. I started to look into this this morning but got distracted.
It is...really not clear what is going on here
Something to do with manipulating a file path, but I really don't know what to say. I realize this is not much help.
I'll let you know if anything occurs to me.
Thanks for trying. Do you know if I uninstall just InDesign and reinstall it will I have to use up another of my serial numbers? Hate to use up my last one on a single program.

err, the question is about deactivating an activated serial number? If you have a Suite license (not standalone InDesign), you can deactivate from another program...
In any case, I believe if you end up having the serial number stuck, you can call Adobe Licensning support and they'll take you at your word and reset your serial number count...
