    Copying Actions

    Heirloom Bob Community Member

I have installed an SSD on my Windows 7 PC and reinstalled Photoshop CS5, onto the SSD. My previous install of Photoshop still resides on my old C drive which is now my E drive. Is it possible to find the previously created actions from my old  and copy them onto my new?

If you did not save the actions explicitly as .atn files, then that complicates things.

Photoshop saves loaded actions in a proprietary format in a file called Actions panel.psp.

If you're running the same version of Photoshop on essentially the same system, it might be possible to just copy your old Actions panel.psp file to your new install's location, but I wouldn't guarantee it (never having tried it myself).  The problem is, the contents of the .psp files are simply not open, so there may be other information in there that will prevent your current version of Photoshop from working properly.

This page describes where the .psp files are located and how they are named:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/828/cpsid_82893.html

          Good luck.

Noel, I COULD deactivate Photoshop CS5 on my SSD and then boot to my OLD drive, reactivate Photoshop CS5 on that drive and then I can be back where I was. Now what would I do to save those actions properly, in order to have them available to use in my other copy of CS5?

The documentation is incorrect Noel it should be "Actions Palette.psp"

Thanks for the correction, Paul.  Adobe should take note.

Bob, if you do want to save your actions, first click the name of the set you want to save, then click the little fly-out menu button at the upper-right corner of the Actions panel, and choose Save Actions.
