Just to clarify, do you have a sequence set up with audio tracks?
Heres what I do when importing mts files. I usually copy them from the cam to a folder on one of my drives but this is not required, just the way I like to do it.
In premiere pro go to import (or doudle click in the project window) then find and click the mts files you require, select it or them, they should load into premiere.
Next step is to drag one of the files into the box called new item. It is at the bottom of the project window.
This should now create a sequence with the same settings as your footage. Also it should set up audio channels to suit, be it stereo or 5.1 or maybe mono depending on how it was recorded.
As for outputting the file, well that depends on what you want to use it for, ie web, flash, dvd, bluray etc.
Hope this helps
The 1440 x 1080 is Sony's HDV format--its actually 1440 x 1081 x 59.97i. Pr Pro has a preset for HDV 1440 x 1080 59.97.
