1. Re: What font formats work with the InDesignCS5 Document Fonts feature
P Spier Nov 8, 2011 11:39 AM (in response to Bexigallio)OpenType and Windows TrueType fonts work cross platform. Mac Truetype should work on Mac, but Type 1 fonts are, I think, pretty iffy on either platform, and of course if a font is restricted ID won't package it at all.

Bexigallio Nov 8, 2011 11:56 AM (in response to P Spier)Thanks that's really useful information.
I'll be able to pass that info on. Maybe a lot of those free fonts are restricted or Type1.

3. Re: What font formats work with the InDesignCS5 Document Fonts feature
P Spier Nov 8, 2011 12:15 PM (in response to Bexigallio)I would expect most free fonts to be true-type, myself, but I don't use them so I don't really know. Badly made fonts can be a problem, no matter the type, and on the Mac platform there were some packaging issues when file paths had "illegal" characters, or were too long (though I don't recall if that was for CS4 or CS5), and I don't know that it affected fonts or only links. In any case, advise your students to update to the latest patch for whatever version they are using.

BobLevine Nov 8, 2011 12:20 PM (in response to P Spier)Are you sure about that? I know they won’t be embedded but I’m not sure they won’t be packaged.

P Spier Nov 8, 2011 12:26 PM (in response to BobLevine)No, I'm not sure, and this is one of those days when I think you are probably right.
