    Default image editor

    Spiersey Community Member

      Hi guys

is there any way where I can select photoshop as my default image editor? Every time I launch captivate I have to select edit with... and once I select photoshop it will remain for that session, but clears at the end of each session.

Seems minor but a it is little irritating.

C'mon RodWard, gimme some good news.......

I wish I could be the bearer of good news...but it would seem not to be.

I've just tested this in Cp4, Cp5 and Cp5.5.  They seem to all behave differently.

In Cp4 if I select Adobe Photoshop as my editor for an image in the library, the next time I open Cp it's still shown as the editor.  But you can only have one graphics editor at a time.

In Cp5 if I choose Photoshop as by graphics editor it won't remember it the next time I open Cp5.  But, for some strange reason that I haven't been able to determine, it WILL remember another image editor I've used previously, Adobe Fireworks.

And finally, in Cp5.5 no matter which editor I use it won't remember any of them the next time I open the app.

Quite bizarre really.  I'm prepared to believe that Cp5, given that it was a total rewrite of the app, might have missed some of the functionality found in Cp4 (there were other such cases).  However, I find the fact that Cp5.5 offers even less than it's predecessors a bit puzzling to say the least.  At this rate Cp6 would be on track to do away with allowing you to choose an image editor altogether.

Perhaps one of the Adobe Captivate dev team can chime in and explain to us what's going on here.  Is this a known bug?

If you have multiple editors installed, CP5 should open image types with

the default editor for that image type - e.g. bmp, jpg and psd open with

            PhotoShop, and png with Fireworks.

You can then select an image in the library, right-click and choose Edit

with..., to for instance force jpg to open in Fireworks and it should stick.

I quickly checked my Captivate 5 setup, and right now bmp opens with

PhotoShop, and png open with Fireworks. JPG seems to be unassociated ...

which is unexpected, but I almost never use JPG images.

I set jpg filres to open with Fireworks in Captivate, and I can confirm

what Rob says - after I closed and reopened Captivate, Captivate 'forgot'

that I wanted to use Fireworks for JPG files.

But I noticed that (somehow) jpg files are associated with nothing (well,

'Paint') in my version of Windows. So I right-clicked a jpg in Explorer,

and selected Open with > Choose a default program, and again selected

            Fireworks.

Now, on reopening Captivate, my selection of Fireworks for jpg files still

has not 'stuck'. I suspect some registry tweaking would fix this, but I

don'[t have time to start digging ...

Thanks Steve but I've got photoshop selected as the default editor for all image types.

Thansk everyone, sounds like a cp5 issue.

                Works for Captivate 8.

                Thanks!
