Twice a year, our magazine prints the financial reports of our organization. The layout is always exactly the same: the only thing that changes are the numbers. I have the layout exactly how I want it. The easiest (but least efficient) workflow has been to manually replace the numbers each time, typing by hand.
I was wondering if there was some kind of slick way of automating this process. The financial data comes in a native Excel file. I was wondering if I could set up some kind of thing where InDesign could read raw data coming in from another application?
Anything come to mind?
You import the text from excel, it comes in a table.
As long as the table has the exact same rows and columns, in the same configuration.
You can convert that table to text, insert a TAB for the separation of columns, and Paragraph for Columns when asked
Then you can copy and paste the text into the table.
