Hi everyone. I am try to trim down some art work so it doesn't as far off the page. Basically I have two overlapping paths that I am trying to clip with another empty path. When I attempt to do so it only effects one of the paths. I have tried to group the two paths I am trying to clip and then clip them but the result is the same. I have even tried cutting and pasteing the objects I am trying to clip to illustrator in the hopes of it's pathfinder options being more predictable only to find the pasted paths now have layer after layer of clipping paths and thier fill options have been altered. I have no idea why any of this is happening. Does any one have any insight to what might be going on?
Group them first.
You can also group the first two then cut and Paste Into the third path as a frame. That will preserve the entire group, rather than timming it, and allow you to make minor position adjustments, etc.
Bob, I'm not sure if you intended the group of two to be pasted into the third object like Peter suggested, or if you were talking about using the Pathfinder (as the title of the thread suggests). If the latter, how do you get that to work? For me, only making a compound path of the two objects would allow using a third object to crop them with the pathfinder.
