A1_Adam Nov 22, 2011 9:53 AM (in response to simpson246)If I understand correctly, and I appologize if I don't, I think the following process will work.
I'm assuming the vinyl cutter follows the paths of the font, and if you draw a rectangle over the font to "connect" the letters, the path of the font is still active, so the cutter still follows that path and defeats the purpose of adding the "connecting" rectangle.
I would:
1. Outline the text.
2. Draw the rectangle "connecter" over the outlined text.
3. Select the rectangle and text and use the Unite function in the Pathfiner menu.
4. This will, well, unite the shapes so the paths around the text that crosses over the rectangle will be eliminated.
Hope this is on the right track and is of assistance.

A1_Adam Nov 22, 2011 11:06 AM (in response to simpson246)When you're drawing your rectangle, on your toolbar, does the fill & stroke color icon look like either of the following images?
If so, then in the first case, your rectangle has no fill color or stroke color. In the second case, the fill color and stroke color is set to white.
Double click the fill color square (the upper left) and select a color from the color picker. Now, when you draw your rectangle, it should appear in the color you've selected.

simpson246 Nov 22, 2011 11:22 AM (in response to A1_Adam)Thanks for the reply.
I just tried it again and now the rectangle has remained.
So now Ive got the rectangle, placed it over the correct little bit of lettering to keep the letters together.
Now im going to need to remove the little bit of lettering that I have cut off then convert it all so that my cutter will read the lines.
How would I do this please?
thanks,

10. Re: Hi, after a little help editing this lettering.
A1_Adam Nov 22, 2011 12:40 PM (in response to [scott])Maybe I missed something, but why didn't you just create the base shape over the outlined text and unite them?

11. Re: Hi, after a little help editing this lettering.
[scott] Nov 22, 2011 1:38 PM (in response to A1_Adam)Because you don't always clip the bottom portion of the characters if you simply draw a shape and unite. It depends upon the typeface, characters, and placement of the base shape.
