2. Re: restorating old digital photographs with severe banding/posterization problem
Christian Davideck Nov 23, 2011 7:18 AM (in response to c.pfaffenbichler)many thanks for your support!
Have you done any editing to the image?
If so have you kept the layered file?
no, I have not started working on these images. I posted the original ones (that's the way the images came out of the camera).Wow! The result you obtained blows me away! I don't know why, but when I made similar attempts in the past, I never got results as good as this (I must have used bad parameters).

3. Re: restorating old digital photographs with severe banding/posterization problem
Christian Davideck Nov 23, 2011 7:26 AM (in response to c.pfaffenbichler)Ok, thank you Mr. Pfaffenbichler. That was very helpful indeed!
This solves the problem for large relatively unifomr areas (like the sky) perfectly. One couldn't wish for more.
However, it doesn't work quite as good when I try the same method on faces, people, and other areas where detail is also important and you cannot set the blur radius too wide (like in the remaining 2 pictures in the OP).
Can you give me some advice as to how to proceed there ?
A proof-of-concept picture like the one Mr.Pfaffenbichler posted above would also be very welcome.
Thank you.
