Last weeks I have been guiding and training about a hundred newbie users of the ADPS, in all kinds of environments. Many of them followed a course in a classroom, some attended a seminar or presentation, a dozen visited an on-line webinar, and a couple more contacted me through email. And they all had gone through various stages of psychomatic traumas, caused by severe problems with installing/updating their ADPS software. The main trouble-maker is the "Update" link in the Folio Builder panel in InDesign. It still points to a page where only the download for the Folio Producer Tools can be found...
Let's see how many emoticons I can find to express my feelings:
Can we blame them for not reading lengthy installation instructions, while clicking though one, two, three download pages, links, and buttons that are supposed to make things easy ? Can we blame them for not understanding the slight but crucial differences between Folio Tools, Folio Producers, Folio Builders, Viewer Builders, Desktop Viewers, Content Viewers, and numerous flavors and versions, during their first attempt to get it all up and running ? Can we blame them for ignoring 20 different resources of more or less official help and support, because they feel they should be able to simply whip up InDesign and have a go at it ?
word.
