I am trying to import a video from a security camera which is labled .avi. I get the Error Message "Unsupported format or damaged file." I have downloaded the proprietary codec into window 7 and the video will play in windows media and other players but will not import to Premiere Pro CS5.5. Any ideas?
You'd need a 64-bit version of the codec, if it is available, since Pr is a 64-bit application. If that's not available, you'll have to convert to something else. Finding out more about the file is key, however: grab MediaInfo and analyze the file, then copy and paste the results here.
>video from a security camera which is labled .avi - proprietary codec
OK, that is not a standard DV AVI file, since those are "native" to Premiere
Do you have a vendor name, and any details about that proprietary codec?
What does the security company say about editing their files... as distinct from simply viewing
It MAY be, for legal reasons (ie-court testimony) that you may view but not edit these files
