I am just waiting for 2700K to become available here in New Zealand before getting a new system box built for me, but have a dilemma about drives.
I was hoping to use a Z68XP-UD3-iSSD, but they are not being stocked by the official Gigabyte importers in New Zealand, and my builder is reluctant to buy offshore because of warrantee issues, so I am wondering if he could use a Z68XP-UD4 and fit a small SSD to make use of SRT?
My current Q9550 system has the OS on a 300Gb Velociraptor, a 150Gb 7400rpm Velociraptor reserved for Scratch, and two internal 1Tb WD Blacks. I also have two USB3 1TB external drives which work really well. Drives are already in short supply here, so I am wondering how to configure the new box. I shall transfer the two 1Tb internal data drives to the new system.
Do I need the throughput of raid0 or can I manage without? I guess I can upgrade to a raid0 pair later if it looks like I have a bottleneck.
I am using CS5.1 for DSLR footage.
Other specs for the new box are Coolermaster ATX case with 650W PSU
4 x 4Gb DDR3 1333
Thanks for any help
AFAIK all Z68 mobos support SRT.
I would start with separate disks and see if that is OK for you with performance. You can always create an Aid0 later if needed.
